MBA Service Club Joins Forces with Alumnus Shep Patterson '10

"One of our younger swimmers, Grace, is flying an MBA banner as she swims the sponsors relay."

Earlier this fall, alumnus Shep Patterson reached out to the MBA Service Club.  While at MBA, Shep, a member of the Service Club and King Society, "began coaching and volunteering for the Nashville Dolphins, a Special Olympics and special needs swim team. The team trains over 150 children and adults, year round, with abilities ranging from those learning to swim to competitive athletes. There is no cost to any athlete at any level to participate."

Shep has continued to coach this group since his Sophomore year at MBA, and he says, "I can truly said that they have given me more than I have given them. All of the athletes are a joy with whom to work (even on their crankiest days)."  He proposed that the Service Club become a sponsor of the Dolphins and that the MBA swim team and Service Club get involved with the organization.

The MBA Service Club became a proud Nashville Dolphins sponsor, and the swim team, with help from Coach Pat Killian, is continuing the school's involvement with this group.  We look forward to growing our relationship in the future.  Roll Dolphins Roll!

Both Ensworth and MBA have chosen to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research in honor of Sam Garrett, a Junior at MBA and a member of the varsity football team. Since May, Sam has been fighting bone cancer with multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatments. During halftime at the game, MBA alumnus and USA Pushpress Champion, Matt Poe, will attempt to execute a set of 10 repetitions with GIANT BARRELS overhead. Support the students and Matt’s lift for Sam; give today and help CURE childhood cancer! All proceeds will go to the Rally Foundation to fund cutting edge childhood cancer research across the USA.

Another Great PSAT Service Day for Seniors and 7th Graders

While the 8th-11th graders focused on the PSAT, seniors and their 7th grade buddies headed into the community to serve others.  Below are some snapshots from the Catholic Charities and Justice for our Neighbors projects.

MBA Students Featured in Video for Justice Industries

From the Justice Industries Facebook page:

Community Service is not a charity.
"Community Service is not a charity," we are told by MBA Students Warner Lamar and Troy Jiang, " it is a symbiotic relationship—2 people serving one another.”
Warner and Troy are members of the MBA Service Club—AND they are making a difference in Nashville. Their club is partnering with Justice Industries, a non-profit organization that is building self-sustaining businesses to employ, mentor, and empower people who are working hard to break free from the cycle of poverty.
Warner and Troy tell it best. Click and watch this short video:
