Please Join the Marro Advisory in the Fight Against Juvenile Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. T1D causes lifelong dependence on injected or pumped insulin and carries the constant threat of complications.
T1D cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
People living with T1D and their families are quickly forced to adapt to a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar level testing and insulin injections to manage the disease and stay alive. They must pay careful attention to diet, exercise, sleep, stress, and other factors that can upset the balance between dangerous blood sugar lows and highs. Despite careful management, the risks of long-term, life-threatening complications such as blindness, nerve damage, high blood pressure, stroke, and organ damage are a constant threat to those living with T1D.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D at all ages and all stages of the disease. Driven by dedicated volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with T1D, JDRF is the largest nongovernmental supporter of T1D research.
The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes raises funds that are critical to T1D research. JDRF's strategic research plan focuses on lessening the impact of T1D on people’s lives with new therapies until a cure can be delivered. More than 200 Walks are held every year in the United States, and dozens more take place internationally. More than 900,000 people participate each year. Since 1992, the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes has raised more than $1 billion for T1D research! And we have reached this milestone through the donations, large and small, raised by our walkers.
This year we are asking the MBA community to join the effort to turn “Type One into Type None” by supporting the JDRF and its mission. For more information about the its plan and the current research efforts supported by the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, please take a few minutes to view “JDRF: Plan for the Future” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o8cjdv_MXk .

If you feel inclined to help our efforts, please head over to our team page located at: http://www2.jdrf.org/goto/MBARollsAgainstT1D  and donate to your favorite class or make a general donation to support our efforts. Thank you!
