Pilot Project for Organ/Tissue Donor Awareness Underway

Although 95 percent of Tennesseans support the concept of organ and tissue donation, only 38 percent of eligible donors are registered in Tennessee.
 Tennessee Donor Services (TDS) will partner with Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) and Harpeth Hall to launch a service program that will actively engage school communities –
students, parents, faculty and alumni – in considering organ and tissue donation.
 The program will be crafted so that schools can take ownership of it and make it integralto their cultures.
 It will enable students to make an educated decision regarding registering as an organand tissue donor, especially around the time they are earning their driver’s licenses.

Mark your calendars for the inaugural donor awareness week: February 5-9, 2018!

Sneak Peak: Sophomore Service Ceremony

Each September Sophomores are "invited" (some may say "required") to participate in the Sophomore Service Ceremony, held early on a Friday morning in the MBA Theater.  This is a time formally to introduce 10th graders to the many community service opportunities we have on campus.  In addition to student speakers and a greeting from Mr. Gioia, representatives from each of the organizations with which we work greet students and share information about their projects.
More photos to come after this Friday, but for now, enjoy this video!

Preston Taylor Tutoring - Back at IT!

On August 31, MBA students went to The Preston Taylor school, a 10 minute drive from MBA, to tutor a group of underprivileged kids. It was very successful as many MBA students were able to help many kids finish their homework.

Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen: An MBA Tradition Continues

This past Saturday Dr. Dickens drove 16 Students downtown to the Holy Name Catholic Church to serve many hungry Nashvillians. Preparing Mr. Gillespie’s taco casserole recipe, the group divided and conquered. Seniors Drew Weikert and Centre King dove into cooking the beef, while freshmen Sam Meacham and Luke Morad operated the deep sink clean up and senior Trace Fontana led a few volunteers to cook a warm bowl of green beans with cheese sauce. Thank you to all who participated, and the Loaves and Fishes Project is looking forward to another successful meal next month.

One of MBA's oldest and most sacred service projects, Soup Kitchen (or what is now Loaves and Fishes) is held on the first Saturday of every month at Catholic Charities, behind the Holy Name Catholic Church.

MBA Hockey + Best Buddies = ❤

The MBA Hockey Team, under the leadership of the great Coach Deutsch, once again volunteered at the Best Buddies 5K.  We appreciate their effort again this year!

Green Door Gourmet Garden Has Another Great Year

Throughout the spring and summer, volunteers helped to plant, water, weed, and harvest crops sporadically before the end of school and at least twice a week during the summer. As the second year for the project, the team was able to grow over 150 pounds of squash and tomatoes for the residents of Nashville's food deserts. Additionally we supplied fresh vegetables for some of The Nashville Food Project's other partners, such as the residents of Mercury Court and The Oasis Center, among others.

Nashville Food Project Never Stops

MBA's work with Nashville Food Project continued throughout the summer and is on track for another great school year.  Each month students prepare and deliver sack lunches to hungry Nashvillians in a neighborhood near downtown.  Thanks to Project Manager Mike Miccioli and the other volunteers for making this a success for all involved!
